Research – Develop - Investigation

The current development cycle for roadbuilding innovations frequently has a timeframe of over 20 years. This is due, among other things, to the high safety requirements. In addition to small-scale and large-scale laboratory testing, a realistic test section of road for the accelerated testing of innovations under actual conditions is indispensable for the successful implementation of these innovations into construction practice.

With the “Roads in the 21st century” research project, the BMVI intends to speed up the practical implementation of research results and innovations. Realistic testing including relevant computer simulations and their validation, together with pilot applications of innovative technologies on the duraBASt, are the critical driver of innovation. They will enable the process up to the trials on the road network to be accelerated considerably.
